The highly anticipated NFL Draft in Detroit kicked off Thursday, drawing what officials said was a record-setting number of attendees on day one — perhaps no surprise considering the Motor City’s place in the pantheon of sports. (In fact, so many were packed downtown that police had to turn people away.) On Saturday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said more than 700,000 people attended the NFL Draft in Detroit, smashing the previous record of 600,000 in Nashville in 2019.
