Detroit’s vibrant cannabis scene is getting another boost with the opening of Fly Shifter Cannabis, a new dispensary spearheaded by Lou Gram — an eastside rapper, entrepreneur, and community advocate known by his stage name Big Shifter.
The grand opening is set for Saturday at 6220 Eight Mile Rd. and promises to be more than just a store launch — it’s a celebration of Detroit culture and resilience, the company said in a news release Wednesday.
Gram, well-known for his charismatic presence in the Detroit music scene, has long been a champion for the city. His transition from rapper to entrepreneur — he’s CEO of DET ENT — reflects a broader mission to uplift local talent and invest in Detroit’s cultural and economic growth. With Fly Shifter Cannabis, Gram aims to merge artistry, innovation, and community focus, creating a space that embodies Detroit’s unique spirit.
The grand opening, running from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., will include a DJ, food trucks, and photo and video activations from noon to 7 p.m. Guests will have the chance to hear Gram speak about his journey as an artist-turned-entrepreneur and the inspiration behind Fly Shifter Cannabis.
The store itself is designed to reflect Gram’s dynamic personality and deep connection to Detroit, with a modern, creative aesthetic that pays homage to the city.
Gram is no stranger to the cannabis scene. In October, he and Pressure Pack, a Detroit-based cannabis cultivator, announced a collaboration to create a new indica strain, Zombie Hunter.
The grand opening event is open to the public.
Since Detroit legalized recreational cannabis businesses in April 2022, the city has awarded 70 licenses for adult-use dispensaries.
