Michigan residents will soon have the opportunity to learn about the state's redistricting process at statewide town hall events organized by Voters Not Politicians.
In November, Michigan voters overwhelmingly passed Proposal 2, the citizen-initiated ballot proposal designed to put an end to gerrymandering. The proposal put forth by Voters Not Politicians called for an independent redistricting commission to redraw the state's political district.

According to the proposal outline, the 13 committee members would be randomly selected by the secretary of state to include four registered Republicans, four registered Democrats, and five independents not registered to either party. To ensure objectivity, the committee members would not be allowed to hold office, run for office, be certain kinds of lobbyists, or have strong ties to partisan actors.

Voters Note Politicians announced on Thursday a schedule of town hall events to educate individuals about the new redistricting process and how residents can get involved.

The nonpartisan grassroots organization will be holding 18 town hall meetings across lower Michigan and one event in Houghton.

Upcoming events are listed below and are subject to change. Admission is free but RSVP is required. More information can be found at votersnotpoliticans.com/upcoming_events.
