Foreclosure feedback

In our Nov. 4 feature story, ("Out from under") investigative reporter Allie Gross told the story of a Detroit family fighting to get their house back from auction after being scammed. Reader Lisa Joyal Mcghee wrote:

Awful. With all of the money the mayor, Dan Gilbert, etc., are spending on blight removal, why not invest some of that on the people that have paid their bills, stuck with Detroit, and are trying to stay in Detroit?

Yes we Dan!

Speaking of Gilbert, our blog post about a WWJ anchor who says he knew "for a fact" that Gilbert wanted to own the Detroit Lions drove fans bananas ("Dan Gilbert wants to own the Lions, Jeff Lesson says"). The news came in the middle of a week that saw owner Martha Ford replace top executives ("Ch-ch-ch-changes announced at the Detroit Lions"). Here's just a sampling of the feedback the post generated:

Reader Chad Ellison wrote:

Only way Gilbert could own the Lions is to sell the Cavaliers. Can't own another sports team in a different city if that city has a NFL team. NFL bylaw.

Reader Dan Tracy wrote:

He would be better off owning the Lions over the Cavs. Once LeBum retires or leaves, that team will be worth far less.

Reader Brian Healey wrote:

That would be the best thing ever! He would sell the Cavs in 10 seconds! Please Fords, 56 years of trying is long enough!

Reader "a detroiter who lives here" wrote:

Don't you think this guy owns ENOUGH of Detroit?

Reader Jake Taylor wrote:

Trying to save Detroit is ambitious but I honestly believe if he bought and turned around the Lions, people would start a religion based around the teachings of Gilbert.

Reader Greg Sobek wrote:

No way Fords get rid of Lions — cash cow for family.

Reader Scott Farley wrote:

GO PACKERS! A former Lions fan who as of last month, has had enough roaring disappointment for one lifetime. Just because I live closest to them doesn't mean I'm married to 'em. Born again Cheese Head here and feeling great! Does the Lions lack of quality reflect on Ford Motor Company? Just askin'.

Reader Gordon Maxwell wrote:

Make it happen — and if not Ford family, you have the money and technology build the ultimate football player in the assembly line. Instead of the $6 million man we are talking about now the $60 million football player.

Reader José Antonio Ruiz wrote:

Suh is already the $118 million player.

Reader JJ Luranc wrote:

Please buy the Tigers too while you're at it...

Reader Jason Carbary wrote:

Damn, why doesn't he just buy the city of Detroit and everything in it?

Home is where the alt-weekly is

And lastly, we received this lovely note from reader Susan Brochu-Hoshield. Thanks for reading!

My husband and I recently moved from northern Michigan (Petoskey) to the Detroit area. Imagine our culture shock! (Noise, cars, people, and shopping to the excess). One thing I was bemoaning was the loss of my favorite weekly paper, The Northern Express. Then I found Metro Times at my local library. Your paper brings all of the elements I enjoyed in The Northern Express: hard-hitting exposes, thoughtful editorials, news no one else prints, and the ubiquitous ads featuring marijuana clinics and scantily clad ladies. (I know it pays the bills!) I feel right at home. Thanks for a great paper.
