Wayne State is looking for Detroit revitalization fellows

Wayne State University is looking for 20 fellows for their Detroit Revitalization Fellowship program and they're accepting applications from now until Feb. 20.

The program promises to match "mid-career leaders with civic, community, and economic development organizations working on the forefront of Detroit's revitalization efforts."

Basically, they're hoping to match professionals with graduate's degrees and between five to 15 years of experience with local organizations to help implement new programs to enhance the city and state. 

Each fellow will work for two years in a salaried position, and they can expect more than just a small pittance for their work. The positions promise to pay between $50,000 and 80,000 annually. Salaries vary depending on the size of the organization that the fellow is matched with, and often the program does provide a stipend to the employer to help pay the fellow's salary. 

The program's goals are myriad but include leadership development, network building, new program implementation, and possibly even breaking down barriers between organizations. 

The program hopes to attract Detroiters and Michiganders as well as people who have moved away and are hoping to return to the area. 

According to a press release, since the program began in 2011, some of its fellows have been involved with projects including REVOLVE Detroit, Motor City Mapping, the Detroit Lighting Authority, and Source Detroit. 

The program's 2015-17 organizations include the Belle Isle Conservancy, Charles H. Wright Museum, Detroit Future City, Detroit Historical Museum, Eight Mile Boulevard Association, Henry Ford Health Systems, Southwest Detroit Business Association, and more.
