Sometimes even the most skilled drivers fail to dodge the two-foot wide holes in the ground that plague Michigan roads. And the worst of us seem to suffer a magnetic attraction to those concrete craters. But until Governor Whitmer fixes “the damn roads,” it seems potholes will remain a fixture of Michigan's landscape.
Over in Ann Arbor, though, some good Samaritan took it upon themselves to help the more negligent among us by propping up a big white and black sign on West Liberty St. that matter-of-factly announces: “POTHOLE.”
From a polar vortex to seeming early spring to the current freezing over of the state, this past week has been a crash course in Michigan’s erratic weather, and the roads are feeling the brunt of it all. Recently, potholes forced lane closures on I-75 in Troy and one particularly pesky pothole on I-94 and 10 Mile damaged five cars, the Free Press reports.
It remains unclear if more funding will be allocated for short-term road fixes as the weather fluctuations cause more potholes, the Detroit News reports. Governor Whitmer is set to unveil her long-term road funding plan in March with her first executive budget proposal, which will have to be negotiated with state lawmakers.
