Former Vice President Joe Biden has endorsed Gretchen Whitmer for Michigan Governor.
In a statement sent by Whitmer's campaign Wednesday, Biden says he supports the Democratic nominee because "Michigan’s middle class families need a governor who knows how to get things done."
"Gretchen has spent her whole life getting real results for the middle class, whether it was raising the minimum wage, or working to expand Medicaid," Biden says. "Gretchen’s got a real plan to fix the roads in Michigan and get our kids the skills they need to compete for good paying jobs."
Biden is expected to join Whitmer at campaign stops in Michigan as the Nov. 6 election nears.
Whitmer is up against Republican Bill Schuette in the governor's race. Schuette has the backing of President Donald Trump, a polarizing figure who is quite popular among Michigan Republicans.
Biden is quite
popular among Democrats and left-leaning independents — with more than 80 percent saying they would support him if he chooses to run for president in 2020.
