Officials from UAW-Ford, the city, and Detroit Tigers players will be on-site for the grand re-opening of Balduck Park in East English Village next week.
More details will be revealed at the ceremony Saturday, June 14, but the group says the nearly $2 million in refurbishments to the ballpark include bleachers, an updated scoreboard, landscaping and new restrooms.
"UAW-Ford believes in giving back to the communities in which we work," James Settles, vice president of UAW, said in a statement. "On behalf of UAW-Ford, we feel that it is important for our youth to have clean, safe, well-organized and well-supervised sporting activities in their communities."
The ceremony will include Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Detroit Police Chief James Craig, Settles, as well as current and former Major League Baseball players, including: Willie Horton, Austin Jackson, Rajai Davis, Torii Hunter, and the Detroit Tigers mascot, Paws. It will take place June 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Balduck Park, located at the corner of Chandler Park Drive and Canyon Street.
