News Hits noted that U.S. Rep. David Bonior has been rising in the gubernatorial polls as of late. According to a survey released just this week, the Macomb Democrat is virtually tied with former guv Jim Blanchard and trails Attorney General Jennifer Granholm by a mere 8 percentage points. Which means — what?

News Hits advises readers to ignore the polls. As we saw in last year’s Detroit mayoral election, the numbers can shift faster than Oprah Winfrey’s waistline. Besides, how can anyone make an informed decision at this point? After all, the candidates’ TV ads have only recently begun to run, and no lucid voter is going to make a decision as crucial as their choice for governor without watching all the campaign commercials. And it’s still way too early for the negative ads — you know, the ones with ominous voices and snippets of documents taken out of context — to begin showing up.

Millions of dollars are going to be spent over the next month to sway you. And since we all know that the most qualified candidate will be the one with the best commercials, perform your civic duty and keep a close eye on that tube — so that you will be an informed voter.
