The award-winning Ferndale coffee shop and fine-dining spot Torino expands its tasting menu beginning today. Since they redesigned their initial concept early on, Torino is the only restaurant in metro Detroit to not offer an a la carte menu. Customers are instead offered a prix fixe tasting menu of five courses for $59 (wine and cocktail pairings extra). Diners took some time to warm up to the idea, but now it seems as if there’s no looking back. Astonishingly young, executive chef Garrett Lipar has proven himself more than capable.

The restaurant debuted a redesigned website and, beginning today, an expanded tasting menu. Diners will experience Torino in nine courses instead of five, for the increased price of $89 per person, plus tax, tip, and any cocktail pairings. Despite the changes, Torino is still a tiny restaurant, so be sure to make reservations.

This week’s menu features Mangalista pig from a local farmer (they’re sort of like the pork equivalent of Kobe beef), oysters, venison, and a cheese course dressed in chamomile and nasturtium flowers. It sounds playful, interesting, delicious and more filling than ever.
