The Michigan Glass Project kicks off at Belle Isle on June 5 with a cocktail party at the aquarium followed by three days of music, food, and "functional glass art" blowing and vendors. Funds go toward supporting the Belle Isle Aquarium (and a local food bank to be announced). The event has managed to raise $24,000 each year for the Belle Isle Aquarium in 2012 and 2013. Check out the event's Facebook page for more information, or email [email protected].
These works "functional glass art" are pretty far out. Check out the official site for more psychedelic samples.
Please note that Belle Isle is a state park now, so you'll need a Michigan Recreational pass to drive onto the island, available at the Secretary of State. And by the way, kids, remember this is "functional glass art." Do not use this "functional glass art" on Belle Isle — we hear that place is crawling with cops now.
