OK, now that we've dispensed with the bungled autopsies and nuclear waste, here's at least one positive tidbit worth chewing on: The good folks over at Detroit's Avalon Bakery (422 W. Willis St. in midtown) have a sweet deal going to benefit the more than worthy group Alternatives for Girls. The group "helps homeless and high-risk girls and young women avoid violence, teen pregnancy and exploitation. ..."

To help the cause, Avalon is donating 10 percent of the proceeds from its "Gifts from the Hearth" and "Detroit Lover" attire to the group all month long. In addition, 10 percent of everything sold on Valentine's Day (Monday, Feb. 14) will go to the group.

The food is great and the cause is good. So what's there to think about? Get thee to Avalon.
