Detroit attorney Ron Glotta isn’t buying all this crap about rallying around our new leader, whomever that may be. In two long pieces sent to News Hits ("Call to action" and "Continue the struggle" ) he argues that the last thing progressives should do is bend over and quietly accept a Bush presidency.

Instead, he argues, we need to fight these right-wing bastards every step of the way.

“In opposing George Bush, progressives will have the opportunity to unite people and fight for democracy,” writes Glotta. “The ruling class is projecting the idea that this process is over once a winner is declared.”

As an attorney who specializes in representing people injured on the job, Glotta has seen firsthand how the regressive policies of Gov. John Engler have hurt working people. And he cringes at the thought of what Bush will do if he takes control in an atmosphere where Democrats pledge to be willing to seek compromise in order to avoid gridlock.

The first step in declaring the Bush presidency illegitimate would be to stage a mass demonstration in the nation’s capital should junior eventually place hand on Bible for his swearing-in ceremony.

“We must begin to mobilize a million people to be in Washington, D.C., on Inauguration Day,” urges Glotta. “This will be a demonstration to fight for the legitimacy of democracy and the legitimacy of the electoral process and in opposition to the theft by the Republican Party of the democratic process in this country.”
