Rock on — For a good time with a purpose (and, no, that’s not an oxymoron) head out to Wayne State University on Thursday, Oct. 14, from noon to 5 p.m. Why? Because that’s when the Rock the Vote tour bus rolls into town to get us all excited about, you know, this whole election thing. There will be performances by Dan Dyer, Keaton Simons, Sarah Hudson and the Wylde Bunch. Unfortunately, as far as we know, free underwear won’t be part of the festivities. Poll-itic$— Want to pick up some extra scratch and do your bit to assist the democratic process at the same time? Well, then, here’s the deal: The City of Detroit’s Department of Elections is looking for people to work the polls on Nov. 2. Pay is $85 to $185, depending on the exact job. Applications are available at the Department of Elections, 2978 W. Grand Blvd. But don’t dally or dilly, ’cause you only have until Oct. 22. To qualify you must be at least 16 and a Detroit resident. Setting the agender — TransGender Michigan will host a town hall meeting to discuss the proposed marriage amendment on the state ballot and how it would affect the transgender community. The meeting will be held at the ACLU office in Detroit, 60 W. Hancock, on Monday, Oct. 18, from 7-9 p.m. Call 517-420-1544.
