In case you were too busy with holiday cheer (or holiday hell) last month to read News Hits, we reported that former Detroit Police Chief Benny Napoleon disclosed in a deposition (for a discrimination lawsuit against the city)that he intends to run for Wayne County Executive. Napoleon could not be reached for comment at the time, but he contacted us last week and indicated that he will almost certainly run for the post long held by Ed McNamara, who’s retiring.

What does he intend to do if elected? “What I would like to see is improvement in some county services,” he said. “Even if they are operating well they could always be better.”

Noting that many people are concerned about the way things are being handled at the county-run Detroit Metropolitan Airport, Napoleon promised that his administration would make sure contracts are awarded in a manner “that is more acceptable to good government.”

Asked when he plans to publicly announce his candidacy, Napoleon said, “That decision will be made by my campaign committee.”

You mean reading it in News Hits isn’t announcement enough?
