OK, for this edition of Cribs, we’re going all “new vintage” on you. See, from 1998 to 2006, Brendan Benson called this three-story Victorian, home. Benson purchased the classic Motor City mini-mansion (on East Grand near Kercheval and the Belle Isle bridge) with cash left over from his publishing and record deals for his first record, One Mississippi, on Virgin. The house served as his studio where he not only recorded his album The Alternative to Love but also the Muldoons’ self-titled release and the Greenhornes’ East Grand Blues, among others. It was while Benson was working on the Greenhornes’ record that the Raconteurs recorded its album Broken Boy Soldiers there — Jack White lived just down the road then.
After having his home broken into twice (while he was in it) and getting mugged at a gas station up the boulevard, Brendan had enough. Last year he moved to Nashville (or, as call it, the new Woodbridge), where Jack White lives.
