You can soon ride that red rental bike all the way from downtown Detroit to the 'burbs.

MoGo bike share says it will expand service to Berkley, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Oak Park, and Royal Oak in spring of 2019. The company says it will also add more stations in the city of Detroit.

In total, there will be about 30 new stations and 150 additional bikes in Detroit and Southeast Oakland County. MoGo says the expansion is made possible through a nearly $500,000 Transportation Alternatives Program grant from the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments.

“People’s transportation needs don’t stop at city borders,” MoGo founder and executive director Lisa Nuszkowski says in a media release. “Expansion of bike share sends an important message about our ability to work together to solve transportation challenges in the region while providing people with an affordable and convenient way to get where they need to go.”

Detroit's bike share system is good for trips that take a half hour or less, but you can avoid an overage fee if you re-dock the bike and take out a new one. So if you plan it just right, you'll be able to go from city to city using the bikes.

Mogo says specific station locations will be determined with through outreach with each participating community.
