MDOT replacing I-75 bridge supports in Detroit; plan for a slower commute

MDOT replacing I-75 bridge supports in Detroit; plan for a slower commute

The Michigan Department of Transportation on Thursday began replacing bridge supports for I-75 in Detroit under the eastbound I-94 ramp.

MDOT says the bridge supports on both north and southbound of I-75 were needed "after routine bridge maintenance discovered deteriorated concrete on one of the supporting columns." The project will bring a monthlong closure of the eastbound I-94 ramp.

In March, MDOT installed 10 temporary bridge supports to stabilize the bridge.

MDOT says the eastbound I-94 ramp to northbound I-75 will be closed 8 p.m. Friday until June 12 for demo and rebuilding "of the supporting pier holding up the ramp." In addition, it will require lane closures on north and southbound I-75 under the I-94 ramp — but it's expected to be limited only to single or double-lane closures during off-peak hours.

The planned detour to maneuver around the roadwork is eastbound I-94 to southbound M-10, then onward to northbound I-75.
