Are US Marshals 'hunting down' Darnell Earley?

State and federal officials are being questioned by the US House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform today about the handling of the Flint water crisis. Specifically, the Washington hearing will center around how officials dealt with the growing public concern over lead in the drinking water and how the Environmental Protection Agency bungled federal guidances and ignored test results pertaining to the lead-infused water.

But don't expect too much. The big names you probably want to hear from — Gov. Rick Snyder, 2013 Emergency Manager Ed Kurtz (who approved the KWA plan), 2014 Emergency Manager Darnell Earley (who sent the rejection letter to DWSD announcing plans to connect to the Flint River) —  are not there. 

Gov. Snyder was not invited to attend (*flings hands up in the air and questions 'what's the point?'*). Earley, while invited, declined (yes, that happened). 

According to the Detroit Free Press the congressional committee voted to subpoena Earley, who resigned from his post as Detroit Public Schools Emergency Manager Tuesday, however, the former EM refused the request. The hearing started today with Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) saying he would send US Marshals to "hunt him [Earley] down."  

We look forward to seeing how this all turns out considering refusal to comply with a congressional subpoena comes with baggage: charges of contempt of congress, which if convicted can result in fines of up to $1,000 and a year of jail time. But again, let's not get too distracted by Earley — while his actions were destructive and we'd like to hear him testify, we must not forget he is merely a cog in a much more destructive "EM" system.
