Lions in 2013: What to Expect?

Disappointment ... That's What to Expect!

Photo Credit: Domenic Centofanti/Getty Images Football newbies and non-Detroiters can be forgiven their naiveté, but those of us well-versed in Detroit football, we know what the start of any new NFL season brings to our city. A fresh start, high hopes, etc, etc, but ultimately one thing: disappointment. The script has been written countless times before and there’s little reason to think it’s been changed this season. While there’s every reason to believe the Lions will be improved from last year (hardly anywhere to go but up after a 4-12 season), there’s little hope of playoff contention. Luckily, the Lions faithful should still have something to cheer about. Stafford will almost certainly pass for tons of yards. Calvin Johnson might even break the single-season receiving record he set last year. Reggie Bush might improve our running game. Just don’t expect it to count for much in the win-loss column. Some notable games to look forward to:

September 8, 2013 vs Minnesota: In the season opener the lions look to snap their 8-game losing streak carrying over from last year.

September 22, 2013 at Washington: Maybe the Lions will get their first win in Washington. Ever. They’re 0-16 all-time, 0-19 counting playoff games, since 1968.

October 6, 2013 at Green Bay: The lions look to win for the first time at Lambeau since 1991. They’ve lost 22 straight during that time. 23 counting a rare Lions playoff game. They have to be due, right?

October 13, 2013 at Cleveland: The Browns are one of only two teams the Lions have an all-time winning record against (9-3).

November 28, 2013 vs Green Bay: Could be the Lions first win on Thanksgiving day in 10 years. Good news: they play Green Bay, the last team they managed to defeat. Bad news: they’ve lost to them on Turkey day 3 times since.

December 16, 2013 vs Baltimore: The Lions play host to the defending Super Bowl champions in an extremely rare Monday night game at Ford Field.

Just like me I know you’ll be watching. The Lions are the train-wreck of the NFL and try as we might, it’s impossible to avert our eyes. Go Lions!
