A revamped bill lingering in the state House would codify the Education Achievement Authority and expand the number of schools the independent reform district could oversee.

The Detroit News' Jennifer Chambers reports the bill would increase the number of schools that could be placed under the authority to 27 through June. After, the state-run district could operate up to 39 schools through June 2015, and up to 50 after that.

Under the bill, the authority could charter schools in the state, and schools can voluntarily be placed into the district, Chambers reports.
