Hazzards of whoopie

As you might remember, there was a lot of hoopla surrounding the last game at Tiger Stadium: Sentimental fans, TV news crews and local celebrities. Among the crowd, standing in line for a hot dog, I saw Tom Wopat, Luke Duke himself. The star of “Dukes of Hazzard” was within arm’s reach and this ignorant mass of people was none the wiser. But just because this local audience didn’t relish in/notice the aura of a Duke Boy doesn’t mean the rest of the nation doesn’t long for Hazzard County. Look only as far as the new Tom Wopat vocal album of standards, entitled The Still of the Night ($13.99). With a seemingly straight face, Uncle Jesse’s nephew sings “Makin’ Whoopee.” Maybe this album will get you in the mood for driving the General Lee.

If so, pick up the second in a hopefully limitless series of video games based on the TV show: “Dukes of Hazzard II:. Daisy Dukes It Out” ($39.99 at Babbage’s). In addition to Wopat’s voice, the game features John Schneider, Catherine Bach and even country outlaw Waylon Jennings. And it’s good to know someone took the recent congressional talk about video-game warning labels seriously: The Dukes game is rated for everyone, just beware of Mild Animated Violence and Use of Tobacco & Firearms.
