Gordon Food Service opens first Detroit store

Chances are you've had their food, even if you didn't know it. Gordon Food Service has been offering catering, food delivery, menu management, and culinary research services to Detroit restaurants for decades. But today marks the first time the Wyoming, Michigan-based company has had an actual supermarket serving Detroit proper.

A Gordon Food Service Store location is now open on East Jefferson Avenue near Chene. GFS also store has locations in Dearborn, Warren, Troy, Novi, and elsewhere.

Over 30 employees were hired for the opening, according to WXYZ. They're gonna need those employees too: The store's parking lot was packed when we stopped by Monday.
