Our pessimism vanquished (at least for a few hours), News Hits is hopeful that some of our readers will be inspired to help out an organization that's more than worthy of support: the Sugar Law Center for Economic and Social Justice, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing legal support and advocacy for working people and their communities. The group is holding a fundraiser starting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Detroit Public Library's downtown Skillman Branch, 121 Gratiot Ave. The event features live jazz from Spencer Barefield, terrific food, a silent auction and more. For details, go to sugarlaw.org or call 313-962-6540.
