OK, so this guy, John "Gonzo" Gonzalez is entertainment reporter for Mlive, and he's touring the state looking for the best neighborhood bars. (Sounds like a familiar pursuit. We've been doing that in Detroit for years, without benefit of a chauffeured bus or expense account!) Today he touches down in metro Detroit, and he'll be hitting Cadieux Cafe at 4:30 p.m., Nancy Whiskey at 6 p.m., and Moose Winooski’s in Clawson at 7:30 p.m. It seems odd that a statewide tour should hit only three bars in the state's densest, richest, most populous region, but, hey, Michigan is a weird place. (Flip through an issue of the Great Lakes Pilot and you'll see every bartender from Independence to Iron Mountain, and zero mention of Detroit after, say, 1963.)
OK, so we're a trifle affronted that he's hitting one bar for every 1.2 million people in the region, but, then again, it would take years and some killer intestinal fortitude to bar-hop in Detroit on the same scale you would in the boonies. Have a good time, John. If you ever want to see some of the seedier dives in town, well … we have to keep some secrets, don't we?
