Detroit resident Tim Beck isn’t going to let a little thing like a court ruling deter him from working toward making it Detroit Police policy to treat medical marijuana users as their absolute lowest priority. Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Timothy Kenny recently ruled that Beck’s proposed measure — which received more than enough valid signatures to make it onto the ballot — had to be shelved because it explicitly addressed budgetary matters, a violation of the City Charter.

Beck doesn’t agree with that interpretation and plans to appeal the decision. But he’s also hedging his bet and lining up funds so that a revised measure that addresses Kenny’s concerns can be circulated.

Anyone who thinks this effort’s gone up in smoke should think again. “We’re not giving up,” promises Beck.
