Detroit People Mover offering free rides on Thanksgiving

Who doesn't like free? If you have plans to run in the annual Turkey Trot, watch Detroit's Thanksgiving Day parade, enjoy the Detroit Lions win(!), or just want to ride in an endless loop above Detroit's Central Business District, please take note: You can ride the Detroit People Mover for free on Thanksgiving.

Thanks to (presumably a sponsorship fee or contribution from) Michelin North America, on Thursday, from 6 a.m.-7 p.m. anyone in town can ride Detroit's favorite transit system for free, according to a press release from the city. The Grand Circus Park station remains closed for renovation, as the work on the gorgeous David Whitney Building creeps closer to completion. The People Mover will resume regular service on Friday, the press release says. 

Also: Because Woodward will be consumed by floats and streetcar rails, the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) warns passengers to expect delays starting at 6 a.m. Thursday. Eastside routes will stop at the Detroit People Mover's Bricktown Station near Beaubien and Larned; bus passengers should ride the People Mover that day (for free!) to continue their route, according to the press release.

Routes impacted by the happenings around town include: #7 Cadillac-Harper, #10 Chene, #31 Mack, #34 Gratiot, and #48 Van Dyke. Passengers from the eastside routes could take #25 Jefferson/Fort to the Rosa Parks Transit Center, the press release says. Anyone who needs to access those routes from the Rosa Parks Transit Center can take the People Mover at the Michigan Avenue station to the Bricktown Station. Routes from the eastside will resume regular service to the Rosa Parks Transit Center after 6 p.m. on Thursday.
