Detroit firefighters and medics helped save the life of a baby born in a bathroom on Monday.
The 13-year-old mother gave birth to the baby boy in the bathroom of her home on the 19000 block of Edinborough on the city’s west side.
When Detroit firefighters arrived, the mother was unconscious, and the newborn was wrapped in a towel on the floor, Deputy Fire Commissioner Dave Fornell tells the
Metro Times.
“The baby was on the floor with the placenta attached, wrapped in a towel, gasping for breath, and had no pulse,” Fornell says.
Firefighters began CPR until the baby began breathing again on her own.
The newborn and mother were rushed to a hospital. Both she and the baby were doing well Tuesday morning.
