Thanks to generous donations, the Detroit Fire Department is better equipped to save your pet during an emergency.

The Detroit Public Safety Foundation announced the donation of 278 oxygen kits containing more than 800 masks on Thursday.

“The Detroit Fire Department now has enough kits for every piece of fire apparatus to be outfitted with this specialty equipment," the DPSF said in a statement on Facebook. "When responding to fires, DFD is always mindful of pets and does everything possible to save animals trapped in fires."

The donations came after learning of a house fire in January in which firefighters were forced to use equipment intended for humans to rescue 15 of the 17 trapped dogs due to lack of specialty equipment.
