A vehicle exported from Detroit? It seemed like those days were ending. Yet that's exactly what Detroit-based Detroit Bikes will accomplish thanks to a new partnership with one of the nation's largest bicycle distributors, Bicycle Technologies International.
The company, which has been selling it's "A-Type" model built in its west side factory since 2013, will now be able to sell to over 4,000 of BTI's clients nationwide. It's good news for Detroit Bikes, which temporarily halted production late last year while waiting for sales to catch up with supply.
Like Henry Ford's Model T, people can have the A-Type in any color — so long as it's black. The bikes feature hand-welded chromoly steel tubing and a custom-designed rear rack. They retail for $699.
Detroit Bike's headquarters and 50,000 square-foot factory are located at 13639 Elmira Road in Detroit and boasts a capacity to produce 40,000 bikes a year. A list of Detroit Bike's nationwide retailers is available here.
