Detroit-based literacy program to debut July 10

Reading & Rhythm on the Riverfront, an annual summer literacy program hosted by the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy and the GM Foundation, is set to kick off this Thursday, July 10 at 11 a.m. at Rivard Plaza. The program, which is geared toward children between the ages of 3 and 10, will take place every Thursday and Friday from now until August 15.

Now in its fourth year, Reading & Rhythm on the Riverfront not only introduces and aids children in reading, but also introduces them to Detroit leaders and community voices.

The six-week-long series, now in its fourth year, will feature readings from local celebrities, interactive and family-friendly entertainment, music by Guy Louis and Kevin Devine, healthy treats, free carousel rides, and a book of their own to take home.

The program is open to all children and families and other nonprofits like the South Oakland YMCA, Wayne County Community Action Agency, and Southwest Solutions will be present throughout the series as well.
