People with property near the old Detroit train station have the chance to sell for big bucks as Ford gets set to move some of its operations to the site. But one couple with an empty plot of land a block away isn't planning to sell. Of all things — they're hoping to construct a barn.
Scott Lowell and Carolyn Howard — the owners of Traffic Jam and Snug — tell the Detroit Free Press they plan to reassemble a 130-year-old barn on their land at 14th and Dalzelle. The barn is reportedly from a Grand Rapids area dairy farm where Howard’s father grew. They hope to transform it into a restaurant.
In addition to Traffic Jam, the pair own several residential properties in Midtown, including the Blackstone across the street and the Forest Arms apartments further down Second. The pair bought and renovated the Forest Arms after a fire, and tell the Freep the successful renovation is what "gave us the confidence to do the barn.”
