A shattered bus shelter in front of Shell Gas, 4661 Woodward Ave., Detroit.
A Detroit bus shelter was transformed into a pile of twisted wreckage this morning when it was hit by a car. The shelter was on Woodward Avenue just south of Forest, in front of a Shell filling station. As of 10:15 a.m., police were on scene to direct traffic. We will post updates as we learn more.
UPDATE: WXYZ reports the accident was caused by a car driving on the wrong side of Woodward Avenue slamming into the bus shelter. Three people standing in or near the bus shelter were hurt, but are reported to be hospitalized in stable condition. The motorist was not injured.
Also of interest, it was another occasion to halt service of the Q-Line, which was unable to proceed due to the crash taking place right over the tracks, and the police investigation that followed.
