Reverend Wendell Gibbs, bishop of the Episcopalian Diocese of Michigan, will speak about the impact marriage equality would have next week in Royal Oak.

"I stand in support of marriage equality and pray that our justice system will work to break down the walls of segregation, promote the humanity of all, and calm our irrational fears," said Gibbs, in a statement.

The talk, sponsored by the Michigan Coalition for Human Rights, will take place Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. inside St. John's Church in Royal Oak, located at 26998 Woodward Ave.

Michigan recently landed on a list of the top five worst states in the U.S. for LGBT people.
