Wayne County Commissioner Jewel Ware, who’s running to retain her 4th District seat, is holding a fundraiser this week that will feature a drawing that has as its first prize a fabulous vacation package for two. Destination: Beautiful Niagara Falls, N.Y.

But there’s a slight hitch, according to a parenthetical note: Transportation is not included.

Hey, what do you expect for a buck?

Along with cash for second- and third-place prizes, there’s also a surprise fourth-place prize. Always willing to go the distance to bring you important scoops before the competition, News Hits jumped on the story and can now report that, according to a very unreliable source, the fourth-place surprise is a pair of bus tickets to … Niagara Falls. The lucky bus ticket recipients, we’re told, will get to bunk with the winners of the contest if they cover half the cost of the room and promise to stay away from the booze in the hospitality bar.

Ware’s fundraiser will be held Friday, Aug. 4, at Bomac’s Lounge on Gratiot. For information phone 313-922-7238. News Hits is edited by Metro Times news editor Curt Guyette. He can be reached at
