Give the gift of a comfy tush during this season of good will. We all know there’s nothing worse than spending a couple of hours with your rear parked on a rock-hard seat — just ask patrons of the venerable Detroit Film Theatre, who oft suffered from a terrible case of numb butt. Though the DFT is a tremendous cultural jewel, it wasn’t exactly the comfiest place to sit through a fine independent or foreign film — the theater still had its well-worn original seats from 1927. As we previously reported, the DFT closed in December to begin an extensive renovation process, replacing the old chairs with new cushier versions, while still retaining the original trim and cast iron ends. Here’s your chance to help the DFT meet its goal in alleviating the bums of Detroit’s fine film fans: Make a tax-deductible contribution to the theater by sponsoring your very own chair, which will bear a plaque imprinted with your name. There are three levels of sponsorship: $325, $1,000 and $2,500. To make a donation, contact Larry Baranski at 313-833-4686 or lbaranski@dia.org.
Speaking of the DIA, the museum will be open during the holiday season, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Dec. 27-31. A special lineup of children’s activities is planned, including a puppet-making workshop, a storytelling series and live performances. Call 313-833-7900 or visit dia.org.
