DIRTY, DIRTY, DIRTY! The sultans of smut, the pimps of perversion, the kings of kink, i.e., those filthy masterminds of The Dirty Show have launched a call for entries for the sixth annual exhibition. The Dirty Show, once a humble gathering of lowbrow “art” and crudely fashioned clay penii, has exploded into Motown’s most controversial and highly anticipated art event, and has even spawned a nationwide tour. The 2005 exhibit will take place Feb. 11-14 at the Tangent Gallery and Hastings Street Ballroom; interested participants must submit up to four pieces of recent erotic art, of any medium. (And no jailbait! All artists and models must be at least 18.) Submission deadline is Dec. 24 — for complete instructions, visit dirtydetroit.com/CallforEntries.htm.

Rent is due, and your wallet is painfully thin … this familiar sentiment is the current plight of the Detroit Film Center, better known as the DFC. The 11-year-old nonprofit — which provides film workshops, classes and equipment rental — is running a bit behind, monetarily speaking. Although the organization isn’t anywhere near financial peril, they still have to pay the bills, just like the rest of us. To raise a bit of dough before the end of the year, the DFC is selling buttons for a mere $5 a pop. In addition to a spiffy new companion for your favorite Indie-Band-Of-The-Week button, you’ll have the great feeling of knowing you’ve supported this truly invaluable resource to the Detroit film community. To buy a button, visit the DFC Web site at detroitfilm.org, or mail your check payable to DFC to 1227 Washington Blvd., Detroit 48226.
