Photorealist painter Robert Gniewek is showing his strikingly lifelike creations at Lemberg Gallery until Dec. 11. Gniewek’s brightly vibrant “snapshots” — captured through oil paint and linen canvas — range from the luminous Fox Theatre to the quiet beauty of a crumbling Brush Park mansion. 23241 Woodward Ave., Ferndale; 248-591-6623; lemberggallery.com.

’Tis the season — for gallery openings? The first week of December offers a cornucopia of new exhibits. Here’s just a sampling of upcoming events, so mark your calendars:

Lawrence Street Gallery goes back to the basics with an exhibit of exclusively clay artwork. The juried art show promises to illustrate the unique aspects of this particular medium. Opening reception is Friday, Dec. 3, at 5 p.m., and includes a talk by juror Susanne Stephenson at 7 p.m. 22620 Woodward Ave., Suite A, Ferndale; 248-544-0394; lawrencestreetgallery.com.

District Arts Gallery presents Double Vision, a collection of photography by Jef Bourgeau, Steve Nelson, Michelle Stamler and more. Opening reception is Saturday, Dec. 4, at 5 p.m. 955 S. Eton, Birmingham; 248-258-9300; districtarts.com.

Primary Space gives a nod to our furry and feathered friends, with Beaks & Bucks, a themed group exhibition opening Saturday, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m. More than 25 artists — among them Bask, Ryan Lee, Marci Washington and Deth P. Sun — turn their eye toward birds and deer. The only requirement for participating artists is that the work must present at least one nod to wings or antlers — aside from that, everything is fair game (no pun intended), so expect a delightful smorgasbord. 2750 Yemans, Hamtramck; 313-870-9470; pr1maryspace.com.
