In a town that doesn't even have Lyft, there's now one fine citizen who is offering a whole new ridesharing concept: "Amish Uber."
Over the weekend in Colon, Mich., Timothy Hochstedler brought out his horse and buggy to offer visitors something a little out of the ordinary. Instead of the typical quiet Uber ride, Hochstedler, who is Amish, gave patrons a taste of fresh country air and the promise of good company for a meager $5 per ride, debuting the service during Colon's 81st annual Abbott's Magic Get Together.
Hochstedler is potentially cornering a very niche market. Although not affiliated with the company, Hochstedler says he saw an opportunity and went for it. In a conversation with WWMT, Hochstedler said, "Uber is a cool thing, every single year something new comes in and Uber is hot right now, so we have the Amish Uber. We can deliver people to their front doorsteps."
Perhaps the most authentic part of the experience is that there's no need for a cellphone: visitors were simply able to flag down Hochstedler with a friendly wave.
