Overgrown weeds and rubble from a fire surround the charred remains of 3432 Cochrane, less than a mile from the historic Woodbridge District.
Children’s toys still adorn the side porch, and what appears to be the gable from the front of the home lies on the front yard, still strung with holiday lights. The roof is burned and caved in over most of the rear of the home, exposing the back rooms to the approaching Michigan winter. The back yard is a forest of tangled weeds growing up and over trash bags, a TV set with no screen and other unidentifiable debris. Neighbors interested in complaining about this hazardous eyesore won’t have a hard time finding the owner: Built in 1885, the 1,104-square-foot house is owned by the City of Detroit.
