Dan John Miller of Blanche serves as music composer on the new documentary film, Johnny Cash's America, which debuts on The Biography Channel tomorrow night, October 23rd, at 9 p.m. The film was screened nationwide in select cities last week and will be released as a CD/DVD next Tuesday October 28th via Sony/Legacy. Miller produced new music for the documentary with buddy and super-producer (and fellow Blanche member)David Feeny (Loretta Lynn) that's performed by Blanche as well as Kate Feeny and Lauren Semivan. The soundtrack also features a lot of classic Cash music, including some new remixes (see below).
Miller, of course, portrayed Cash's legendary late guitarist Luther Perkins in the Oscar-winning film Walk The Line, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. The new special features interviews with Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp, Sheryl Crow, Al Gore, Tim Robbins, Loretta Lynn, Vince Gill, Ozzy Ozborne, Steve Earle and Merle Haggard, among numerous others. There is also a lot of remixed Cash tracks teaming him up with contemporary artists. There's even a new version of JC's legendary "I Walk The Line," featuring him doing a posthumous with Snoop Dogg -- wtf? -- but we think the legendary Man in Black would probably favor Detroit's own Goth country-rock ensemble.
Mr. Miller: "Snoop who??"
