Wooden Shjips

Back To Land

Thrill Jockey

Back to LandWooden Shjips aptly add an extra shush to their name, with their love of fuzzy tones and hazy effects. The San Fran-based modern psychedelic rock outfit’s tunes are kind of like wind storms, with distorted guitars always churning and the drums relentlessly bursting things forward. The cooler organs provide a steady rhythm while the pedal-effected guitars heave and howl like a wicked siren.

But Wooden Shjips is much more groovy than aggressive, particularly demonstrated on Back To Land, a title evocative of this album’s earthier vibe; whilst still not grounded per se, as each song’s a driver.
