UPDATE: The show is to take place at the Fox; this ticket link might not work for much longer! Best of luck.
As the Free Press reported late Friday evening, tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon via Live Nation for an impromptu concert at an as-yet-undisclosed location this Thursday evening, April 9.
Detroit will be the second stop of Prince's 2015 Hit & Run Tour, which embraces the pop-up show model he deployed last year in Europe. Each show is being announced one by one, just days ahead of time. The U.S. run started last month in Louisville, where he played four shows in two nights.
Tonight's show announcement says a portion of show proceeds will go to local charities.
Are you going to try to go? It's going to be expensive, and when you try to buy your ticket, beware that you'll probably be up against those scalper ticket-buying "bots," so practice typing super fast in advance of noon tomorrow. Tickets to Prince's Louisville date sold out in minutes, which meant that other dates were added, which also sold out very quickly.
Tickets for the shows cost $97 to $275, and platinum tickets were available for more than $1,000.
If tickets cost that much in Louisville, what might they cost here? Also where will the show be held? The Masonic? Fillmore? UFO Factory? Where???! Two tickets to a Prince show a dozen years ago in Seattle remains the most I've ever spent to see a performer. And at the time he was playing with a sort-of wack smooth jazz band and he wasn't doing any of his overtly sexual material. But, seriously, it was still one of the best shows I've ever seen — like watching a boxer actually win a bout after she or he ties one hand behind her or his back.
If you plan to try to go, what will you do in order to afford this hefty ticket?
