They say things get better with age. Such is true for Detroit’s beloved proto-punk pioneers, the MC5. Get ready to kick out the jams because the band is itching to celebrate a rock 'n' roll milestone.

Announced today, Wayne Kramer, MC5’s founding guitarist, is set to launch a 35-date tour to commemorate the anniversary of their debut album Kick Out the Jams as well as the release of his memoir, The Hard Stuff: Dope, Crime, The MC5, and My Life of Impossibilities.

Labeled the “The 50th Anniversary Tour,” Kramer has put together a dream-team lovingly dubbed the MC50. Kramer will be joined by Brother Wayne, Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil, Brendan Canty of Fugazi, bassist Doug Pinnick of King’s X, and frontman Marcus Durant.

The North American tour will kick off in September and will return home to play the Fillmore on Oct. 27 to coincide with the anniversary of their 1968 Grande Ballroom performance, during which their groundbreaking, face-melting album was recorded in front of a live audience.

Tickets for the Fillmore Detroit performance go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 9 and can be purchased here.
