For the past few years, Detroit emcee and producer Nolan the Ninja has made his garish, poetic cadence (that he spits at a supersonic speed) his trademark flow. Enter his newest single, “Numb” — a slow 808-pounding cut in which Nolan raps just a bit faster than the pace of a normal conversation.

In the video, Nolan walks through downtown Detroit dropping a mixture of couplets and stand-alone bars. “Teachers always told us to annunciate our words/ so we’re going to kick that mumble rap shit to the curb,” he raps.

The video was directed by Nolan and Alec Aretakis.
