It’s been over a month since local faves the Fondas have played — but you can catch them this Saturday, June 28th, along with the Decks, at Northern Lights Lounge, 660 Baltimore, Detroit (313-873-1739). They’ll be playing cuts from their upcoming Off the Clock and Under the Radar CD. The band says this could be their only Detroit appearance this summer

And the Dials will be celebrating the release of their new album, Amoeba Amore, on Ann Arbor's No Fun Records, at the Belmont on Thursday, July 3rd. They’ll be joined by label mates Coronados (now featuring new singer Rick Ruiner) and up-and-coming local group the Dial Tones. Surprised they didn’t ask Dial soap to sponsor the thing

And congratulations to ex-Detroiter Missy Gibson who relocated to L.A. several years ago, where her band Breech has been making something of a splash. Gibson and her bandmate Mike Flanagan recently wrote the music and lyrics for a new musical, It’s The Next Big Thing, which will have its world premiere in L.A. at the Arts/Work Theatre (located on Santa Monica Blvd.) on July 19th, running through August 16th. The play — with a book by playwright Jeff Favre — is described as the world’s first “garage rock musical” and is set in the ‘80s. Gibson also plays one of the show’s main characters. Breech — whose Tarnish and Undress CD was chosen by indie-music.com as one of the Top 25 CDs of 2007 and has been receiving airplay on California’s KCRW radio station — will perform before and after the play. The Fondas: Only show for summer '08?

The Decks: no "all hands..." jokes, please!
