The music of J Dilla will be honored at the DIA this Friday

Marking the anniversary two days after his birthday and one day before he died from a heart attack, the DIA is honoring the life and legacy of legendary Detroit hip-hop artist J Dilla. As part of their Black History Month programming, composer Miguel Atwood-Ferguson has arranged important moments from J Dilla’s catalog to be performed by musicians from Rebirth. As one of the most influential hip-hop artists, producers, and founding member of Slum Village, J Dilla’s emotive beats, and intuitive instrumentals have surpassed cult status, and he is forever remembered as a pioneer.

The Music of J Dilla will be held at the DIA on Friday, Feb. 9; Performances begin at 7 p.m and 8:30 p.m; 5200 Woodward Ave., Detroit; 313-833-7900; dia.org; Event is free.
