Whispery indie darling Sufjan Stevens is up for an Academy Award — but he’s got some stiff competition.
The Detroit-born singer-songwriter — who most recently broke hearts with his poetically biographical track “Tonya Harding” — is nominated for Best Original Song for “Mystery of Love.” The song appears in the Luca Guadagnino directed queer coming-of-age film Call Me By Your Name. The film is also up for Best Picture.
The track is up against Mary J. Blige's “Mighty River” (Mudbound), Common and Diane Warren's “Stand Up for Something” (Marshall), Benj Pasek and Justin Paul’s “This Is Me” (The Greatest Showman), and front-runner "Remember Me" by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (Coco).
