Our guide to the top Movement after-parties of 2018

When Paxahau took over DEMF and renamed it Movement, they may have considered calling the annual festival FOMO instead. Because with so many incredible acts and parties to choose from, you will always be missing out on something. At times, the feeling can be so overwhelming that it causes you to rush from party to party in search of a better time, spending all your money on cabs and door fees in the process.

But not to worry — the seasoned ravers at MT are here to help. We’ve whittled down the dizzying list of more than 65 after parties in an effort to help you more easily map out your Movement weekend and avoid missing out on anything too major.

For help crafting your festival plans, check out this stage schedule. Thankfully, navigating the festival a much easier task. With five stages clustered right in Hart Plaza, you can easily bop between acts without incurring any added expense.

Thursday, May 24:

Yes, the parties start as early as Thursday. Consider charging your batteries for the weekend while checking out some impressive, lesser-known DJs at Detroit’s bath house, the Schvitz.

Friday, May 25:

Detroit electronic scene pillars Marble Bar and TV Lounge hold you down this night. If you have to pick one, go Marble — the lineup can’t be beat — but we advise getting your ass to both. Make it to TV early enough and you might be able to snag yourself some ribs. Or buck tradition and make your way to El Club and enjoy the experimental sounds of Wolf Eyes and others for free.

Saturday, May 26:

Hope you took it easy the past couple nights. Things kick into high gear this night with plenty of parties to choose from. Do your best to hit at least two of them. We plan to start at Moodymann’s biennial roller disco on Eight Mile (you’ll want to be soberish for this), hit Tangent Gallery for a showcase of top-notch talent from Berlin and Detroit, and end on the patio at TV Lounge once the sun comes up and the crowds have dispersed.

Monday, May 28:

Monday has historically been all about the day party at Old Miami. Alas, "Need I Say More" is no more, but luckily, there's an equally-as-solid day rave to turn to. We recommend the actual Miami vibes at Marble Bar, which has teamed up with the Electric Pickle for Detroit's own version of the infamous party, "Where Are My Keys." Late night (or early morning), we recommend a showcase by New York label, The Bunker.
