Newly discovered Griot Galaxy footage from 1978, 1984

Although there is a good deal of video documenting the last decade of Faruq Z. Bey's music-making with various groups, there's a dearth of material from the 1970s and 1980s showing Griot Galaxy, the evolving Faruq-led collective that made such an enormous impression on the local community.

But two clips have come to light. There's this preview from the WTVS-TV (Channel 56) show Detroit Black Journal with host Ron Scott. The clip has been around, it was shown at MOCAD last year, but it's newly posted to YouTube:

And from a cable presentation of the Metro Times Music Awards of 1984, there's this dynamite clip by director Ken Schramm, which very few people knew existed. Schramm contacted us about it:

There are more videos etc. on the June 2 Music Blahg post about the passing of Faruq Z. Bey last week at age 70 and reactions to his death.
